Titanium sponge market analysis in the first half of 2021

According to customs data, China imported 358,100 tons of titanium ore in June 2021, up 80.30% year-on-year and 57.94% YoY; the cumulative imports from January to June were about 1,979,100 tons, up 29.11% YoY and up about 446,200 tons in total from January to June 2020.

Among them, the top three countries in June titanium ore imports are: Mozambique, South Africa, Norway, accounting for 42%, 15% and 10% of total imports respectively.

The first half of the cumulative increase in imports of the largest country South Africa, an increase of 1323%, followed by Sri Lanka, Vietnam, which imports of South Africa is mainly titanium gross ore; followed by Sri Lanka, an increase of 257%; and Vietnam increased by 81%.

At present, the overall import of titanium ore is still in tight, Rio Tinto RBM is currently no news of recovery, South Africa riots on titanium ore transportation also has a greater impact on the second half of the year is expected to reduce the amount of Chinese imports of titanium ore.

According to customs data, China's titanium dioxide exports in June 2021 about 100,500 tons, an increase of 30.10% year-on-year, a decline of 4.10%, titanium dioxide exports continue to maintain good momentum.

Among the top three countries in June titanium dioxide exports: India, Brazil, Turkey, respectively, accounting for 9%, 6%, 6% of total exports.

2021 January-June cumulative exports of about 640,500 tons, an increase of 15.39%, compared with the cumulative exports of January-June 2020, an increase of 85,400 tons. 2021 January-June total exports of titanium dioxide in the top three countries: India, Brazil, South Korea; respectively, accounting for 12% of total exports, 7%, 7%. The first half of titanium dioxide exports than last year to maintain a steady upward trend, still maintain a good momentum, with the surge in shipping costs and domestic titanium dioxide prices continue to rise, domestic titanium dioxide exports in June to take orders under pressure, is expected to decline in the third quarter titanium dioxide exports, the fourth quarter of the market and then enhance.

China imported about 16,300 tons of titanium dioxide in June 2021, up 17.18% year-on-year and 3.56% YoY; the cumulative imports from January to June were about 97,300 tons, up 25.5% YoY and up about 19,800 tons from January to May 2020.

Among the top three regions in June titanium dioxide imports: China, Taiwan, Mexico, the United States, accounting for 32%, 24%, 13% of total imports, respectively.

According to customs data, China imported about 1234 tons of titanium sponge in June 2021, up 381.61% year-on-year and 41.42% YoY; the cumulative imports from January to June were about 5170.3 tons, up 57.51% YoY and up about 1887.75 tons in total from January to June 2020.

According to customs data, China's titanium sponge exports in June 2021 about 550.05 tons, an increase of 127.44% year-on-year, 71.70% down from the previous year; January-June cumulative exports of about 550.1 tons, an increase of 52.97% year-on-year, compared with the cumulative exports of January-June 2020, an increase of 190.48 tons.
