BASF and Dow have reported significant supply disruptions due to force majeure events affecting key upstream suppliers. BASF is unable to fulfill existing and upcoming orders for propylene oxide, leading to challenges in polyether polyols and polyurethane systems in Europe. Recently, BASF announced in a letter to customers that it will not be able to deliver the expected amount of propylene oxide to BASF due to events beyond its control at an important propylene oxide supplier. So much so that BASF Polyurethanes has to declare that polyether polyols and polyurethane systems are difficult to supply in the European market.
As of now, BASF can neither secure existing orders for May nor confirm any orders for May or June. The list of affected products is as follows:
At the same time, Dow also issued an emergency notice saying that due to the accident of a supplier of upstream raw materials, its ability to supply key raw materials to Dow’s business was interrupted.
