BASF expands its Ultramid? PA and Ultradur? PBT production capacity in Malaysia

BASF (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd is set to increase its production capacity for Ultramid polyamide and Ultradur polybutylene terephthalate by 5,000 tonnes per year. This expansion, expected to complete by Q2 2023, aims to meet the rising demand in the ASEAN engineering plastics market, projected to grow at 5% annually from 2020 to 2030.
BASF (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd will expand the production capacity of its Ultramid? polyamide (PA) and Ultradur? polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) products by 5,000 tonnes per year. The debottlenecking of BASF's production site in Pasir Gudang, Malaysia is scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2023.

Andy Postlethwaite, Senior Vice President, Performance Materials, Asia Pacific, BASF, said: "BASF is committed to the engineering plastics market, which we believe offers significant growth opportunities. The additional capacity will help us meet market demand for Ultramid? PA and Ultradur ? PBT products. strong demand and strengthen our market position, especially in the ASEAN region.â

The production site in Pasir Gudang, Malaysia was established in 1999 and the engineering plastics compounding plant produces Ultramid? PA and Ultradur? PBT.
Ultramid ? PA and Ultradur ? PBT are used in automotive applications, the electrical and electronic sector, industrial products and consumer goods.
