Nantong COSCO SHIPPING Kawasaki-built 24000 TEUs methanol dual-fuel container ship launched
After the successful delivery of the world's first 24,168 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship "Oriental Wisdom" on June 25, the third ship of the same series, custom-built for Orient Overseas by Nantong COSCO Kawasaki Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (Nantong COSCO Kawasaki), was successfully launched on August 18, once again setting a new benchmark for the batch construction progress of high-end green ships.

This ship type is currently the world's largest methanol dual-fuel container ship, independently developed and constructed by Nantong COSCO Kawasaki. The ship has a total length of 399.99 meters, a width of 61.3 meters, a depth of 33.2 meters, and a deck area approximately equivalent to 3.5 standard football fields. With a deadweight tonnage of 225,000 tons, its overall size and carrying capacity rank first among similar ships globally, leading the industry in comprehensive performance.
In terms of power and environmental protection, this series of ships is equipped with the world's largest methanol dual-fuel power system, featuring ultra-high-power methanol dual-fuel main engines, auxiliary engines, and boilers, along with large dedicated methanol storage tanks. It can freely switch between methanol and traditional fuel modes, flexibly adapting to various shipping conditions. When operating on green methanol fuel, the ship can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 150,000 tons annually, achieve near-zero sulfur oxide emissions, significantly lower nitrogen oxide emissions, and fully comply with the most stringent environmental regulations of the International Maritime Organization. This provides a mature and high-quality Chinese shipbuilding solution for the global shipping industry's low-carbon transition and green emission reduction development.
During the critical sprint phase of the ship's launch, Nantong COSCO Kawasaki scientifically coordinated the overall production plan, dynamically optimized construction scheduling and resource allocation, and strictly implemented special measures such as high-temperature operation protection, rainy season construction guarantees, and 24-hour holiday on-duty production support. They precisely controlled core key processes such as block assembly, equipment pre-installation, and precision management. All production management, technical research and development, equipment maintenance, and frontline construction personnel focused on the milestone targets, overcoming challenges and working tirelessly. Through refined, standardized, and normalized management, they effectively countered various external adverse factors, ensuring the ship's launch was completed on time, with high quality and quantity. This efficient and stable construction rhythm fully demonstrates the company's robust production organization capabilities and exceptional project management standards.

Currently, outfitting construction for the second ship in the series has entered the final stages, with all ship equipment testing and cabin finishing work progressing in an orderly manner, and sea trials about to commence. From the successful delivery of the first ship to the second ship being ready for trials and the efficient launch of the third ship, Nantong COSCO Kawasaki has fully established a complete process system for the research, construction, sea trials, and delivery of ultra-large green container ships, forming a standardized, batch-oriented, and highly efficient construction capacity.
