Chan Mei-po stated that last year Hong Kong completed 16 liquefied natural gas refuelings and 110 biodiesel refuelings, involving a total of 220,000 tons of green marine fuel. Mainland China will become an important production base for global green marine fuel, and Hong Kong can leverage its unique advantage of "backing the motherland, connecting the world," combined with different companies' supply chains and refueling ship services, to build a green fuel refueling and trade center.
Hong Kong SAR Legislative Council member Lam Ming-fung stated that the new fiscal budget proposes to reduce port fees for green fuel ships and allocate 34 million Hong Kong dollars to provide incentives for green fuel ships registered in Hong Kong. These measures will attract more ships to Hong Kong and play an important role in consolidating Hong Kong's position as an international financial, shipping, and trade center.
Fan Qiang, General Manager of China Classification Society Hong Kong Branch, stated in an interview that although the development of green methanol in Hong Kong started slightly later, it has the characteristics of "comprehensive planning, and once initiated, the subsequent speed will be relatively fast." If Hong Kong can combine its high efficiency and the advantage of future controllable costs, it has the full capability to excel in the green methanol field.
Liu Wei, Deputy General Manager of Sinopec (Hong Kong) Limited, told reporters that more methanol dual-fuel bulk carriers will gradually be put into service this year, bringing more opportunities for the application of green methanol. The next step will be to plan the construction of green methanol storage facilities in Hong Kong. (End)
